How can we use the perfect participle in a sentence?
We can use the perfect participle to form
participle clauses:
Rule: 1
*When the action has already been completed
before the other action begins.
For
Example:
I lost all my money. I went home.
→ Having lost all my
money, I went home.
Rule: 2
*The action takes place over a longer period of
time until another action.
Example:
The runners had been practicing around on the
meadow all day long so that they were tired.
→ Having practiced around
on the meadow all day long, the runners were tired.
Rule: 3
In the passive form, we form the perfect
participle with “having been + V3”.
For Example
Having been bitten by a snake, the man immediately sought medical advice.
